Clive Cannons - Unichem Clive's Pharmacy
"It was a real honour and thrill to be the supreme winner for 2011. Winning has motivated our team and given the whole town of Wainuiomata a boost. Plus the awards dinner was a wonderful occasion!
Preparing the entry allowed me to take a step back and look at where the business had come from, celebrate the highs, learn from the lows, and now clarify how we can be at the forefront of pharmacy health care and retailing in New Zealand.
We are fortunate in New Zealand to have such an event, and it is important to participate."

"It means a lot to us, getting the recognition for ourselves but especially for our staff, after all the years of hard work and innovation.
The feeling of hearing our names read out three times, was just amazing and it felt so joyous standing on the stage receiving the awards.
It especially feels good, to feel that we can make a change for the pharmacy profession and then have the recognition for those changes.
My advice for any other pharmacist, is if you feel you have a good idea back yourself and make it happen. Then enter the awards and get some positive news happening for pharmacy and for yourself."

Des Adams, uLearn’n’Care
History repeated itself when Orewa pharmacist Des Adams stepped up to collect the Supreme Award for a fourth time since the Awards’ inception 23 years ago. He won the inaugural award in 1987, followed by wins in 1989, 1994 and this year, as well as a category runner-up prize in 1991.
His wins, spanning 23 years, represent the past, present and future of pharmacy.
He acknowledges the focus of pharmacy has changed.
"In the old days it was all about leveraging retail business from the dispensing business – turning the dispensary customer into a retail customer. But now the major focus is on value added services from the dispensary such as chronic disease management," he said.
